Preparing your site to Optimize Your Space with Shipping Containers, Portacoms, Cabins, and Transportable Offices

In need of additional space for your business or home? Shipping containers, Portacoms, cabins, and transportable offices offer a convenient and quick solution. Whether you require temporary office space or a cozy sleepout, these versatile buildings can cater to your needs.

At NZ Transport Services (NZTS), we ensure a seamless delivery process, but before we deliver your chosen unit, proper site preparation is essential. At NZ Transport Services, we want to ensure a seamless and hassle-free delivery of your shipping container or cabin to your site. Proper site preparation is essential to ensure a smooth placement process. Here are some helpful tips and recommendations to help you prepare your site and foundations:

10 Steps To Ensuring Smooth Site Preparation for Hassle-Free Transportation:

1. Location Assessment & Safety Check: Determine the ideal placement spot for your shipping container or cabin. Ensure there are no low hanging branches, low hanging powerlines, phone cables/ telephone lines that could hinder the access of our trucks and machinery to the site. Watch Out for Architraves. Be mindful of any house architraves that may protrude and hinder the truck’s turning capabilities. If necessary, have someone guide the driver around potential obstacles during placement.

2. Vegetation Clearance: Prior to the arrival of our Carrier truck, it is essential to have all trees, hedges, and foliage cut and cleared to avoid any obstructions during the process.

3. Ground Conditions: Verify that any grassy areas are dry and not boggy or wet, especially if a carrier needs to traverse these areas during the transportation process.

4. Access Measurement: Measure the drive, entrance, or gateway to ensure it can accommodate our trucks, cranes, or machinery for smooth collection or delivery of your goods. Measure Carefully. Take precise measurements of the site where you want the Shipping container, portacom or cabin placed. This includes considering the positioning of the delivery truck.

5. Ample Space: Establish sufficient room not only for our carrier to access the site but also for them to exit safely. Good turning circles and clear driving paths are essential considerations.

6. Clear the Area: Ensure the designated space is clear and free of any obstacles, such as debris, construction materials, foliage, rubbish, vehicles or other structures that could hinder smooth delivery.

7. Choice of Foundation: Flat surfaces like concrete or gravel are preferable to placing containers directly on grass. Elevating the container slightly (even 50mm) using options like house piles, wooden railway sleepers, wooden posts, or concrete blocks allows for better airflow, reducing rust and moisture issues.

8. Marking the Spot: If you won’t be on-site during delivery or if you want your unit placed exactly in position consider marking the outline of the desired placement area with spray paint or clear markings. Our operators will strive to place the container precisely as indicated or as close to this as seemingly possible.

9. Surface Leveling & Level Placement: The area where the Shipping container, portacom or cabin will be placed should be flat and level. If necessary, consider using foundation materials like wooden blocks or concrete pads for stability. Ensure containers and cabins sit as level as possible to facilitate easy access and smooth operation of the doors.

10. Safety Precautions To Streamline The Process: Ensure there are no people or animals on-site that may be at risk during the truck’s operation, such as cows in a paddock or children on a driveway. Also minimize potential delays by ensuring there are no other contractors, carriers, or controllable circumstances on-site that may hold up our team and increase wait times.

IT IS A CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILTY TO HAVE THEIR SITE ACCESSIBLE AND READY FOR COLLECTION OR DELIVERY PRIOR TO A CARRIER ARRIVING.

Fuel Adjustment Factor (FAF) Explained

The Fuel Adjustment Factor, commonly known as FAF, is an essential component in the transport industry to offset fuel costs. With fluctuating fuel prices, transport companies implement the FAF as a surcharge to recover some of the expenses associated with fuel consumption. While some companies adjust their FAF rates frequently, others maintain a fixed FAF rate for the month.

Calculating the FAF involves considering various factors, such as the type of transportation required. For instance, a crane’s FAF rate will differ from that of a pilot vehicle, and a low loader’s rate will vary from a Hiab’s due to differences in on-site time and fuel consumption.

To determine the FAF cost accurately, most companies refer to FAF charts or tables based on the average fuel pump prices at a given time. The average fuel pump costs are recalculated daily, allowing companies with more frequent FAF rate adjustments to reflect current fuel prices more precisely. On the other hand, companies with monthly FAF rate changes may experience slight variations in the actual fuel costs.

Transport companies may choose to display the FAF as a separate cost on invoices, ensuring transparency for customers. Separating the FAF allows for easier quoting adjustments, especially when customers require re-quoting without affecting the total job cost significantly.

At NZ Transport Services, we prioritize transparency and fairness, ensuring that our FAF rates align with current fuel prices, and we aim to provide you with reliable, cost-effective transport solutions tailored to your needs.
